BIOINFORMATICS SCIENTIST

JOB SUMMARY: Genomic Testing Cooperative is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics Scientist to manage all aspects of data analysis, data storage, and bioinformatics support in its daily clinical practice. The Bioinformatics Scientist will work in a high volume clinical setting to deploy, maintain and evolve the bioinformatics framework for a high-throughput, rapid turnaround time oncology oriented genome sequencing based laboratory. Demonstrated expertise in clinical bioinformatics with a strong sense of process engineering. Knowledge of CAP/CLIA standards and other regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree 3 years of experience in CNV and SV calling preferred. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in area of study in a field related to the position and 1 year of experience.

Experience analyzing Next-Generation Sequencing data and Exome and Whole Genome Sequencing in clinical testing space.

Experience developing and maintaining pipelines for 24×7 automated bioinformatics analyses Experience working with and understanding of open source NGS tools like bwa, samtools, vcftools, picard, GATK, etc.

Previous experience working in a CAP/CLIA environment is recommended.

Clinical Lab Scientist

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a natural science’s field with 1-3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • License in the state of CA as a CLS, CGMBS or CCS
  • Possesses appropriate computer skills with strong data entry skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Good social skills and attention to detail
  • Motivated to work independently and within a team environment
  • Willing to work in a biohazard environment and follow safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and problem solve
  • Attention to detail and critical thinker

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with software, quality systems and lab automation
  • Knowledgeable of molecular laboratory processes or techniques

Job Description:

Performs clinical laboratory tests to support patient care.  Utilizes a variety of molecular techniques, instrumentation, and disciplines related to NGS and other molecular procedures.  Performs laboratory quality control and assurance activities.  Supports with data entry and reporting processes.
